Truck Carrying $10 Million in Silver Bars Crashes in Upstate NY

silver truckA truck heading from Rochester to Queens, NY crashed on Interstate 81 Monday, along with its cargo of $10 million in silver bars. The truck and $10 million in silver slid down the Interstate embankment, with the silver strewn across the interstate.
In other news, Jamie Dimon spent New Years Eve vacationing in upstate New York.

We hope rescue workers were able to recover every last bar, as we are talking $1 billion in rehypothecated paper silver at risk.

  1. Bankers are losing it, the pressure is on

  2. Shh, please don’t talk about my secret silver shipment out of New York….

    • No doubt a 1000 buyers awaiting their silver will get this ”silver spilling truck” story as the excuse why their metal isnt delivered, then they can wait 4 months for it like Sprott. I guess saying ”we dont have your silver because your silver hasnt been mined yest” doesnt instill confidence in the silver market.

  3. I wonder who was taking delivery of all  that silver.

    • Isn’t the struggling Kodak corp HQ in Rochester NY?  Maybe they’re selling off assets. I’d assume they had sizeable silver reserves related to the photographic segment of their business.

  4. lol …. This is proof that physical silver is moving fast … damn bankers rushed the shipment and and the driver was tired from being overworked.

  5. Uh, sorry, but due to the unfortunate accident involving our delivery truck, you will not be able to take physical delivery of your Silver.  Please accept this check instead.”

  6. Whoa maybe they where shipping it to one lucky stiff holding out for physical payment or maybe they where shipping it to the mint so they can make their American Eagles. LMAO  sent from cell phone at the spill location. lol

  7. If I saw that I’d have 2 in each hand 1 in each pocket and one shoved where the sun don’t shine so fast it would make your head spin.

  8. Shoot me the coordinates while I jump in my car and head out there to assist in the clean up! :)

  9. He forgot he wasn´t on a boat

  10. I didn’t know canoes were street legal.  Crazy Canuck at the wheel, M45 riding shotgun.  Doc in the back counting the SD Bullion sales receipts.  Makes my day!!!

  11. He’s lucky it was all in Phyz and not paper…all that paper blowing in the wind would make it extremely difficult to pick every last one :)

  12. Well, some say it is and some say it isn’t. Meaning Gold and Silver UP surge in 2013.
    ANY IDEAS?

  13. Very interesting news…  When was the last time in the past 30-odd years in the US that there’s been any story of a shipment of so much precious metals being in an accident, especially Silver bars?

Also, the story says nothing about what may have caused the crash…  Was someone trying to heist the load?

Another thing, $10 million worth of physical Silver (10 tons) would take quite a bit to obtain in the current crunch in physical Silver supply, so this is a huge amount by Silver standards.

This is the kind of thing that movie story lines are made of…

    • “When was the last time in the past 30-odd years in the US that there’s been any story of a shipment of so much precious metals being in an accident, especially Silver bars?  Also, the story says nothing about what may have caused the crash…  Was someone trying to heist the load?”

My guess is that they were side-swiped by a gold truck rushing some bars from GLD to the NY Fed so they could show at least something to all the PO’d countries who want their gold back.  As AG says, though, it isn’t there anymore.  It’s long gone, sold, leased, hypothecated, whatever.

  14. Minimum wage driver!

  15. Is there any chance Silver Doctors could provide a link to a nice high definition photo of the spilled silver.  They must have been pallets of 1000 ounce bars.

  16. I call BS on that actually being $10,000,000 worth of Silver.

They probably calculated that, based upon the weight of the Silver in oz, then adding a $5.00 premium as though these were ASE’s – much like the big pot busts in which they seize $100 pounds and then calculate out its value if it had been broken down into joints and sold in the projects for $10/each.

    • I agree. Something isn’t right with that story. 10mill of silver at today’s spot price is a little over 10tons.
How does 10 tons of silver bars fit in those little armored trucks?

    • Easily. It takes only a cubic meter to load 10 tonnes.

    • True.. but i guess it depends on the truck layout. I’ve seen the inside of a small Brinks truck and with the seat layout in the back it would be a tight fit.. oh well

    • “Easily. It takes only a cubic meter to load 10 tonnes.”

Volume is one thing but weight is another.  I would think that it would take a sizable truck to haul 10 tons… an F650 maybe?

    • “Easily. It takes only a cubic meter to load 10 tonnes.”not silver because you dont melt the bars so there is some air between them and they lie on pallets that take some space. should be gold. those bars are huge and weight only 30 kilos each.

Figure out with the picture, you need 100 bars to make 3 tons. and that makes 3 million US$.
The truck is too small=not strong enough to carry 10 tons. no wonder that it crashed.

  17. I understand that the accident was actually caused by blythe masters in an apache helicopter. That person left the crimex with a load if silver and the cartel was not about to let that happen.

  18. At first, my reaction was “Wowie, Zowie!!!” but now all of a sudden I’m not buying this story, given the elaborate, planet-encompassing quality of silver’s permutations, too much coincidence. Okay, off to the conpiracy sites!

  19. @Marchas45, I couldn’t help but notice the silver bar-sized bulge in the pocket of the fireman in your 5:45 p.m. photo.

    • Yea Mammoth I seen that. I’ll need to go by that site later with my Metal Detector just in case they left anything. Lol

    • Don’t waste your time.  Just as I was leaving the site with my full backpack, I saw Blythe pull up in her chauffered Rolls-Royce, and she was carrying a metal detector in each hand.

  20. Truck Carrying Millions in Silver Crashes (With Photos)
    Story Updated: Dec 17, 2012
    it is an old story

  21. When they deliver my bars there better not be a scratch on them…….!!!!!

  22. Why does the WBNG story have a date stamp of December 17? More weirdness. It happened Monday? Getting into high strangeness. @Marchas45, are you time traveling?

  23. @Precious at my age I’m always time traveling. I try to think back but can’t remember and I try to think forward then I forget what I’m thinking. Lol

  24. Da Yooper.  I’m going to send you 2 lbs of paper silver for your virtual avatar outhouse.  Happy Birthday

  25. Even in the various images of them bricks lying around, that beautiful silver color comes through. It brings tears to my eyes.

  26. Can’t someone find out thru a police report or Freedom of Info Act, where that silver was coming from and where the final destination was???????
    I Gots Ta No?

  27. It is really nice to see such loads being transported, maybe Queens is repatriating their silver reserves.

  28. Not to be a contrarian with the regards to the homourous posts, but the article actually states that the silver bars were being shipped FROM Queens, NY,   TO Rochester, NY. SD misquoted.
As for tonnage: I’m no expert, but along the lines of Luigi’s post, metal density plays a factor. The article doesn’t say that all the silver spilled out of the truck, there might be more silver in that truck. Time to whip out the periodic table and check out silver’s density :)

  29. The more I sniff around on this, the more likely it seems to me that this crash (a crash…an interesting metaphor for the demise of Kodak) has something to do with liquidation of that company. Found some info on SGT and on a site called Night Owl Trader – a timeline that included sale of Kodak’s silver business last fall. “October 5, 2011: Just when it seemed like there was really nothing else left to sell, Kodak sold its silver business, arguably the heart of the entire company, to an outfit called Rochester Silver Works.”
This seems to fit the Rochester origin, the Queens destination, I have no idea.

    • Again,
the truck was delivering FROM Queens, NY,  TO Rochester, NY.

    • Remember those stories of the massive gold plating schemes sometime 03 – 04? About the same time the Rockefellers left the gold business. How about them mobilizing a massive silver plating scheme novadays? I mean, about anything is possible at this stage of cartel’s misery.

  30. As I remember, Kodak was one of the places that had a nuclear pigg in its basement, which I can’t remember how that came to be known recently. I seem to recall someone noticed radioactivity. Sounds like there’s more to Kodak than moments.

  31. @Proverbs1616: SD may have misquoted, but every bit of the story could be a made-up cover, and the only other source we have is @Marchas45, and he ain’t talkin’.

  32. DOC,
Let’s talk about Silver and news from the experts. The Silver story has mold on it.
    Ranger

  33. Not to worry folks. It is just part of an awareness campaign. Did the public take notice though? lol

  34. see what happens when you dont keep it safe in a vault …. anything could happen … leave it to the big boys they will look after you

  35. @Precious,  Not sure what a ‘nuclear pigg’ is, but nuclear material-containing devices are more common than most people think.  I work at a Paper Mill and there are two of them here on-site.  And during a recent construction project, a contractor brought one of these to measure the soil density.

But I am digressing from the subject of Silver.  Time to move onward to the pressing issues of this new day.

Hmmm, I just noticed my arm is glowing…
