The Spanish Economic Crisis: ‘Yo Invito – ¿Dónde Está Mi Dinero?’

‘I want to know, Where is my money!!?’

What caused the Spanish economic crisis, and how safe is your money in banks? Maria Blanco, economist and member of the Instituto Juan de Mariana; Doctor in Economics Juan Castaneda; Marion Mueller, founder of OroyFinanzas.com; and Expansion.com journalist Miquel Roig discuss this and more over coffee at Madrid’s Café Gijón.

Fractional reserve banking, sound money, and the prospects for monetary reform in Spain and the wider world are the broader topics of conversation. Though the quartet are heartened that more and more people in Spain are taking an interest in economics since the country’s debt problems became apparent, they doubt that the kind of radical monetary reforms they favour would win support among many Spaniards. They are heartened though that elsewhere in the world — notably an increasing number of US states — the sound money cause is gaining support, albeit slowly, among citizens and politicians.

  1. Wonderful vid! Most of the people get at least some of the truth. Quite a lot get most of the truth. I wish our people even knew half of what the Spanish understand. They will when it’s their turn to get fleeced hard.

    Thanks for posting!

  2. Oh, but was it a conspiracy? ……. No No NO they yell. The four main discussers, though many many great points are made, seem to be mostly the supposedly ordinary people asked first only more sophisticated.

“very complicated” indeed. It’s not. It’s theft. Organized robbery. The heist of all times.

Interestingly while it’s obvious that left side of the table sort of represents the political left (the fat guy is Krugman-like), and the right side seems to sort of represent the right, both sides, especially the ladies agree on many points that I would call libertarian viewpoints.

Very interesting discussion, thanks very much for posting and the good folks who dis the subtitles.

  3. Libertarians… the last ones standing?  Probably so once all others have spent themselves into oblivion.  Well earned, well deserved… and good on ‘em too!  Unfortunately, when the economic / financial SHTF, we are all gonna get splattered.  Thing is, some of us will fare MUCH better than others.  The ones who took the time and made the effort to learn about all this stuff and then took action to preserve their buying power will come through this better than those who did not.  A lot better!
