The Dark Night: Con Edison Cuts Power to Manhattan

With the worst of the storm surge hitting Manhattan over the next 2-4 hours and water levels already a foot higher than the previous all-time record set in 1960, Con Edison has cut power to portions of lower Manhattan including the Financial district.  A total of 3.1 million are without power as a result.

Mr. Dimon had better hope that all the Twitter users plotting coordinated looting riots don’t turn their focus on 270 Park Avenue.

    CNN just had video of a transformer exploding, one of con edisons. Those aren’t easy to replace.

    Breakfast, lunch and dinner in candle light. It can get quite romantic and it gives one time for quality family time. At least that was our experience when the power outages hit South Africa a couple of years ago. It of course always help to be prepared… we had enough candles and cooking gel to keep us going for weeks. My wife is till complaining about the amount of cooking gel I’ve got in storage. lol

    That’s a good reason why you should own another alternative electricity source instead of being dependent on another company’s electricity. Let’s hope that the hurricane doesn’t cause that much damages and especially doesn’t kill people.
