Physical Silver Update:

Sales of US Mint Silver Coins remained subdued this week at 220,000 Silver Eagles, bringing year to date Silver Eagle sales to just 6,842,500 coins 2.5 months into the year.  (In 2016 the Mint sold nearly 6 million coins in January alone). 

Premiums on 90% silver bags stabilized this week after jumping last week, as the .50 jump in silver spot prices freed up additional silver bag inventory.

  1. A question if I may. 

    I wonder if anyone has a similar experience with milkiness on their silver coins?

    What causes it and is there a cure?

    I opened a tube of Australian Saltwater Crocodiles & found that half of them are affected even though they have not been exposed to any dampness, etc.

    I know they were from a subsidiary of the Perth Mint & still sealed, so are authentic. thanks anyone? _JLG.

      Great find, I’m heading off to the Chemists for some Jewellery Wipes & to the Newsagents for the Eraser.

      I’ll try them first, before trying the Cloudy Ammonia (phew) if I have to.

    • Please share your results on what cleaner works.  I have some maple leafs with the same problem.  Was told by local coin store it was the cleaning agent on the press left behind as “bullion coins” are “low premium” and not the same amount of time / effort spent during cleaning..

    • Always read all your comments.I know APMEX here in the states sells these wipes and I think a device if im not mistaken like a larger version of the little packets that you find in the bottom of a bag of jerky or in a bottle of vitamins to pull out the moister.Peace

      Cleaning the MILKY coins;                                  * Brand names   

      Earlier I had used a Paper Mate* pencil eraser with some success.
      I tried CONNOISSEURS* Jewellery Cleaner on some which did not work (it works excellently on my 1966 50c coins).

       

      In attempting to clean the milky silver I thought I’d irreversibly damaged the coins with Cloudy Ammonia as the 20 coins I put in the plastic container for 20 minutes turned a browny color.  (they may have picked up that color from using the CONNOISSEURS*  on some copper coins at another time. 

       

      First of all    
      1 Don’t use plastic or metal – I knew that somewhere in the back of the brain, but….
      2 Try 1 coin at a time not 20 – I knew that somewhere in the back of the brain, but….

       

      Then I used the eraser again (double the work now). Cleaned 3 of them, then used a product called JIF* with a wet rag. They are looking good, but if you have any coins which are collectibles it may be best to leave someone else to do it. You will lose value as soon as a scratch is seen on them.     
             
       I could not find any impregnated Jewellery wipes around my small town. (the other suggested method).                               _JLG.

    • This answer may sound to simple for some; to “retail” for others, but I have silver solvent/cleaner/polisher that I purchase from Walmart for 7 bucks!  It has  a dipping tray and small brush for cleaning silver jewelry and WORKS WONDERS! (I mean it, I take old tarnished silver and they emerge polished & shiney!)

      make sure to read the instructions!  There is gold cleaner too (you don’t want silver being dipped in that)

      3 minutes and WHAM! shiney coins!  Even worked well with an old kennedy half 90%

    • JOHN, DON’T WORRY, I HAVE A SHITLOAD OF EAGLES LIKE THAT. COIN DEALER  TOLD ME THAT IT WAS CAUSED AT MINTING. THERE IS A BORAX WASH OR SOMETHING THAT WAS ERRORED. DOESN’T DEMEAN VALUE OF COIN, PISSES ME OFF AS WELL, BUT NO LOSS OF VALUE.

      I also use ZoneAlarm and it gives me no warnings about this site.  Hmmm… makes me wonder which is right.  I have not received any email from JPM.

      But I do have a little story about JPM.  I once had a check drawn on JPM in the amount of $5,000 that I wanted to cash.  I went to my CU to cash it and they would not (could not?) give me cash for this check.  I left and went to a local JPM branch.  They not only could but did cash the check and their only question was “What size bills would you like?”.  Now, I’m no fan of any of the big NY banks but at least they know how to swap a check for cash.  🙂

      As for JPM check…. whatdya think?  Maybe Chase puts “other” banks that are not in their circle through a gauntlet of paperwork in order to get their funds?  Definitely sounds like a branch2branch issue though!

  3. Harvey is simply repeating Andrew Maguire’s assertion that “liquidity is draining out of LBMA and Comex and into ABX”. Evidence/Data please because record Open Interest in Comex suggests otherwise? Remember that Maguire has a vested interest in ABX and so to avoid being seen as just “Talking his book” he should release data to support his assertions.

    • Between Harvey and Maguire predictions the CRIMEX should of already failed about 15 times.  It’s obvious their models are flawed or missing key data behind the scenes.  Whatever the reason they’ve been wrong more than Wolfe Blitzer on Jeopardy.  Anyone that’s heeded their advice has lost their arse’!!  I no longer even listen to them and can’t understand why anyone would give them airtime anymore?  Might as well call in Moe, Larry and Curly for advice.

    • Maguire is undoubtedly talking his book and glosses over facts with his perma-enthusiasm which I don’t trust one iota. Organ is one of the good guys but let’s his imagination get carried away and I take his analysis with a pinch of salt. Put together I wouldn’t put any faith in their prognostications but that doesn’t mean they are wrong – they are on the right track but just not enough to be entirely credible.

      Perfectly put, Organ and Maguire give good analysis on the upside but never highlight or give weight to the downside risks, it’s a shame because they are both good communicators.  Maguire has about 75 days for his reset prediction to come to fruition (or not), I will be interested to see what he has to say if it doesn’t come about and why he didn’t factor in x,y or z.

      The CRIMEX should have failed 15 times but each time they get away with it, they have a corrupt and complicit oversight with zero accountability.  The master manipulators keep pushing the boundaries out further and further, if the physical tightness in PM’s starts to become a huge problem I’m convinced that their is a war chest of gold and silver for a last ditch flood the market if absolutely necessary.

    • Maguire originally made the comment about the physical gold market in mid Feb, so he’s got about 60 days left. But then in an interview with Craig Hemke last week he agreed that it’ll be silver that overpowers the cartel and lets gold on the loose, so he more or less contradicted himself. That was bothersome to hear and makes me feel he’s not trustworthy. We’ll soon find out.

       

    • @PhiPhi.    Yes we are all aware that the CRIMEX is manipulating the metals market. In the U.S. there is no physical tightness as metal sales have plunged in 2017.  We are constantly fed reports that overseas is an entirely different story but can only 100% verify what we see locally.  I think people are tired of the manipulation and no longer purchasing.

      What’s interesting is the metals price has actually gone up some in 2017 even as purchases have fell off a cliff.  I think the CRIMEX realizes what they’ve done and manipulating the price a couple bucks higher to try and keep the mines on life support.  I doubt it lasts very long and expect a final price purge plus dealers and mines to start closing shop shortly. It took them 6 years but the CRIMEX has now destroyed the metals market in the U.S. and no large investors will touch anymore.  Without large investors this market is in serious trouble.

      Trump, which everyone cheered would stop the manipulation, has done nothing!  He’s part of the club and believe that everyone is finally beginning to figure that out.  Meet The New Boss, Same As The Old Boss!

      Not sure why these supposed guru’s like Willie, Bo, Holter and the rest can’t figure that out?  Maybe it’s because they’re trying to sell metals or push newsletters?

      As for JPM check…. whatdya think?  Maybe Chase puts “other” banks that are not in their circle through a gauntlet of paperwork in order to get their funds?  Definitely sounds like a branch2branch issue though!

      Interesting.  Sounds like “the high priced spread” to me.  lol   I just use the free version and have had no trouble.  I run utilities that scan for viruses, malware, and registry errors so my PCs usually run pretty well.

      I thought that the CU problem was that they simply do not keep much cash in their branches.  Their main office has a large vault and keeps plenty of cash on hand for various needs.  I have learned to drive the 4 miles or so to the main office when I want more than a few hundred in cash.
      As to Chase, their small branches seem to be well run and customer friendly.  Their top management?  Not so much.  I would MUCH rather deal with Chase than B of A.

    • Thanks for posting that URL.  Interesting commentary from Kunstler.  Carlson needs to be quicker on his mental feet.  He could have said that “the blog title is something like cluster-bleep nation”.  Anyone with any experience with the military would have known immediately what the real title is and without saying it directly.

Seeing as how the price of Silver has been constantly whacked since the year 1500 and seeing as how central banks around the planet are stacking Gold I would venture to say that they are more worried about the hoi polloi stacking Silver. Sadly I don’t think there are or ever will be enough of us to force their hand.  The bank stirs that is.  We happy few are waiting for them to screw up the value of the currency which looks like it could happen at anytime.  Our victory will be an anemic one.

    • Could be, Andrew.  On the other hand, JPM has a s-load of silver bullion, either for themselves or as agent for someone else (China?).  Either way, someone wants to have a large pile of silver available to them for some reason and it is not likely to be in our best interests.

      Gold is their favorite metal, though, no doubt.  It’s a lot more space efficient than is silver, which is important where vault space is at a premium or when physical wealth needs to be transported, especially by air.

      Personally, I am not convinced that anyone is overly concerned about us stacking silver.  We know that everything that can be rigged IS being rigged and that it is reasonable that those doing the rigging will turn to other forms of rigging should our silver stacks become any sort of a problem.  Not that it has to come to that, of course.  A lot of this has to do with price.  If TPTB need silver metal, they will simply allow the fiat price of silver to rise high enough that many who now stack will be willing to sell a good part, if not all, of their silver stack.  Those who play the naked shorting game WILL be warned ahead of that time, so they can go long and profit from the rising price of silver.  Sigh… different bat day, same bat guano.

       

    • @Ed_B We throw a lot of Silver away.  It’s possible that there is more Gold stacked than Silver worldwide. I have stacked all metals basically.  I don’t know why I debate the subject unless it’s because I own more Silver than any other metal.

      Agreed.  Silver is consumed while gold generally is not.  Most gold can be recovered and even small amounts are worth recovering.  Not too many are interested in recovering the small amounts of silver in dead electronic devices, though.

      Same here.  I once thought that a 50:1 ratio of silver to gold ounces would be good but I’ve over-bought silver and under-bought gold so am close to a 150:1 ratio now.  Just about the time I think I am done buying silver, either the price drops or something really nice comes along that I just have to buy.  lol

       

  6. Most ordinary folk who are stackers now have a comfortable position in physical silver and so the reduced purchases are probably reflecting that. Unless silver dips back down to below $15 (unlikely) then the volumes will increase again.

    Couldn’t be further from it!?  Haven’t you been paying any attention?  The old boss and his cronies have desperately tried repeatedly to tear apart the “new boss’s” success, operation and undermine his politics at every angle. EVERY!

    The mans been in office 60 days and has just shut down G-20’s global trade genocide, is taking designs for the wall, presses ever further regardless of headwinds to limit terrorist immigration, moves forward to FINALLY put a bow (even a shitty one) on this ISIS crap, wrap it up and move on!

    He’s nothing like the last, nothing like the first, and only similar to one other president in history that had no political background.  Like him or not, there’s only so much BIG items one can cram in a period of time.  He’ll get to it; before 4 years are up, he will have made good on ALL of his promises. (not only does his spokesman say so (in fact bringing it up as a discussion point) but he has moved like LIGHTNING knocking those promises out the park since he stepped foot in office.

    He’s batting 100% so far.  Give him some time to screw up some of his promises (like some BULL$HIT medical plan/dilluted obamacare) — when that happens, and you hit him HARD here… you won’t hear a peep outa me…. because YOU’LL BE RIGHT.
