*Due to a database error during the completion of the transfer of files from development to production this afternoon, the IT team was forced to reset the new website back to its original state.
Users who newly registered in the past 24 hours may need to re-register due to the reset, and users may need to re-add their avatar.

There are a number of changes that you will see on the upgraded SilverDoctors.com. The site has been basically re-built from scratch. You should now see huge improvements in login, registration, site loading speed, comment submission time, and social features across the blog. One of the biggest changes is you will now be able to redeem ounces (points) accumulated by commenting across the blog for actual physical silver or SD merchandise and apparel. Additionally, we have added a widget area to the right side tool bar which allows you to browse through articles submitted by a specific SD Contributor.
Helpful Points for Contributors
1. Avatar images will need to be uploaded again by all users. To do so, log-in to the website and move your mouse cursor to the top right where it says “Howdy, and your name.” A drop down box will appear and you will want to select the profile button. Each user will earn 5 ounces for just uploading an avatar image.
2. To embed a picture into the comment field from anywhere on the web: (Image embedding still being worked on by IT staff) Update: As of 3:57 AM Aug. 12, 2012 images can now be embedded into post comments.
- Right click on the image
- Select “Copy Image”
- Navigate to the comment box on SilverDoctors and hold down “Ctrl” then “V” to paste the image.
3. To embed a video into the comment field from anywhere on the web. (Video embedding still being worked on by IT staff)
- Right click on the video
- Select “Copy Video URL”
- Navigate to the comment box on SilverDoctors and hold down “Ctrl” then “V” to paste
Additional Social Features
1. In any comment section you can insert “@” followed by the “sd user” to send them a direct message. The message will appear in their top tool bar when they are logged in and also notify them via email if they have chosen to allow email notification.
2. As with the other site, all users have an internal email.
3. All users have an activity wall which can be viewed by just clicking on any underlined sd user’s name. SD readers are able to post messages directly on their activity wall if they choose to do so.
Accumulating Ounces
SD contributors can earn ounces (points) across the entire blog. Obviously, the Doc can’t afford to be passing out one ounce rounds to everyone on a daily basis. However, we guarantee no other blog will have the reward system we do when it is all said and done with!

One Final Note
We had to make some major adjustment to images and programming to reduce page loading speed. Please consider utilizing FireFox or Chrome internet browsers for optimal viewing and website experience.
Thank you again for your patience and we hope you enjoy the new upgraded SilverDoctors.com!

nice new site, doc.
like the changes.
best of luck with it!
@igotchurmarginhikerightheah- A lot of hard work and 19 days with little sleep went into this new site… so thanks for sharing your positive thoughts. Looks like you are in second place in the new point leaderboard!
The Silver Doctors IT team got the SD Reader Forums working again, so feel free to visit the forums and interact there with other site members.
Some other cool things – SilverDoctors also has new features that combine the best of Twitter and Facebook – @mentions and friending. If you are replying to someone’s comment (either in a post or on the forums) you can put the @ symbol in front of their username and it will notify them that they have been mentioned by you on that post/forum. To friend people, you can visit their profile and friend them from there. When you friend someone, it sends them a friend request which they have to approve before you are actually linked as friends. When people get new messages, the notifications show up on the new notification area in the admin bar at the top of the screen next to your account (where it says ‘Howdy, username’).
One final note – all of these new social features could flood your inbox and you might not like that, so there are settings in your profile account to adjust how you are notified about different things. Feel free to set these settings to your own preference.
To get to your new profile, just hover hover your account in the admin bar (where it says ‘Howdy, username’) and you will see all of your options there.
Hi Helper how come my points are no longer showing? I had five when I reloaded my avatar.
lol sill moderating
I’ll give you 5 right now. We had a minor set back earlier today which resulted in some of the most recent posts being deleted (and thus points as well). Thanks for letting me know. You should see your point balance increase by +5 within the next couple minutes.
Thank you Helper. Set Back maybe the helpers helper did it?

@427 – to load a photo, just copy the image and paste it in…

So you are right clicking on the image and clicking on ‘Copy’ (not copy image location) and then you come back here and do a CTRL+V to paste the image? When I do that, it lets me paste the image.
This one is mine out of photobucket it has jpg on the end of it

So, if you are using firefox, you right click on the image, click on ‘copy image’ and then come back here and CTRL+V to paste the image into the text box.
Great work guys!!
Thanks, @ricin3000 – glad you like the new site!
I like the thing that an @nick sends a notification. Not overdone to necessarily get as much traffic as possible, but very useful I imagine to keep interesting discussions going. That’s going to prove to be a great feature. Nice one!
Be proud of yourselves, you’ve done a heck of a job!
Best all,
R3K
@427 : you will want to copy the image itself (right click, copy image), then paste it into the comment field, not copy the image URL like before.
-Doc
That was harder than before, some times it’s hard to get the photo blue to copy do to boarders. However if it’s a small photo with in an article you should be able to copy words and photos at the same time. Thers a little stack of my Academy’s
Well it was in the box until I posted it

Wow, the new site is awesome. Great work!
Site looks awesome
Thanks, @silver-psycho There are still some things we are working through, but we are getting there!
@helper What do you think about going mobile friendly? and adding a Revolver Map?
@uglydog – That would be up to @the-doc and @bullrun – but I think it would be good to look into. I have a black berry and SD displays pretty well on my phone… what kind of phone do you have? Does it not display well?
@the-doc You realize you have created your own currency with your electronic ‘ounces’ redeemable for merchandise. My prediction is before it’s over your ounces will have more purchasing power than the dollar.
@427 Please try to paste your images again. I did some digging around and made some code adjustments that should now allow you to copy and paste images from the web into the comment fields. Thank you for informing us that this was not working as originally designed.

Doc..new site runs so much faster. I really like how you can build discussion threads. Well done.
Love the new feature being able to subscribe to followup comments! And I can promise that it will offload the servers greatly (since users do not have to poll for replies).
@widget – Thanks for the positive comments! One thing that is really nice about the subscribe to comments feature is that you don’t even have to comment to subscribe, unlike most other sites that have a check box next to the submit button. One other thing we did is make the RSS button highly visible in the header of every page. We wanted to give people every chance possible to stay updated on the most current SD on-goings.
