guns4cashLiberals attempted the first gun buy-back in Seattle in 20 years last weekend.  Unfortunately for the gun-control advocates and 2nd amendment haters, hilarity ensued as the gun buy-back quickly developed into a full-fledge gun show, as gun enthusiasts and collectors swarmed the buy-back line with offers to buy the guns for cash.  To the astonishment of the Seattle PD, a large portion of those turning in their guns decided they would rather receive cold hard cash for their weapons than receive token gift cards from the Seattle Police Department to turn in their guns.  Ooops.

Schuyler Taylor, a previous gun retailer attending the event in hopes of buying weapons, asked Why not offer them cash versus a gift card? I’m still taking the guns off the streets; they’re just going in my safe.

Leave it to enterprising Americans to always find a loophole in the midst of ever-expanding government regulation.

While thousands of Seattle residents lined up for hours to trade their handguns, rifles and family heirlooms away in exchange for up to $200 in gift cards as part of the city’s latest gun buyback program, gun collectors who have seen prices for assault rifles and firearms accessories almost triple since November took advantage of a huge opportunity.

Police stood in awe as gun enthusiasts and collectors waved wads of cash for the guns being held by those standing in line for the buyback program.

Police officers in Seattle, Washington held their first gun buyback program in 20 years this weekend, underneath interstate 5,  and soon found that private gun collectors were working the large crowd as little makeshift gun shows began dotting the parking lot and sidewalks.

Some even had “cash for guns” signs prominently displayed.

People that had arrived to trade in their weapons for $100 or $200 BuyBack gift cards($100 for handguns, shotguns and rifles, and $200 for assault weapons) soon realized that gun collectors were there and paying top dollar for collectible firearms. So, as the line for the chump cards got longer and longer people began to jump ship and head over to the dealers.

John Diaz, Seattles Police Chief,  wasn’t pleased with the turn of events stating “I’d prefer they wouldn’t sell them,” but admitted it’s perfectly legal for private individuals to buy and sell guns, FOR NOW. Mayor Mike McGinn said at a news conference the private transactions are a loophole that needs to be closed. “There’s no background checks, and some (guns) could be exchanged on the streets that shouldn’t be in circulation.”

But Schuyler Taylor, a previous gun retailer attending the event in hopes of buying weapons, asked “Why not offer them cash versus a gift card? I’m still taking the guns off the streets; they’re just going in my safe.

    • @Ranger
You’re correct. Those guns were probably passed down from wiser parents or grandparents. The same goofballs will be out there with bullion over the next few years, stupidly squandering their most precious instruments of Liberty for the sake of an i-whatever, or a couple months of cable TV service.

    • Yes, indeed… and another victory for capitalism and responsible gun ownership!  Man, I wish that they would do this in my town.  😀

    • Yes!  I bet both parties in all the transactions were MORE than pleased!   $100 for gun?  $200 for a AR?  Who are they kidding?   That’s a worse deal than when Roosevelt said turn in your gold coins for 20 smackers! LOLOLOLOL    See how well things turn out for both parties when the govt doesn’t get involved where it has no business?

    • Yeah, but we all know that those libs were just itching all over to license, regulate, register, and tax this kind of activity to oblivion.  HA!

    • Not just the boot stomping on the face, but afterward, pickpocketing the victim and looking for gold or silver filings.    These dimwits who don’t realize when any govt gets too powerful that it turns into a monster don’t realize they are whistling by the graveyard.   Completely oblivious to the fact their precious stock market holdings could take a 50% haircut at any time if TPTB choose to pull the plug, or conversely they could print them all into pauper hood in an astonishingly short amount of time.

    • Funny you should mention that image, RRG.  I have the very same one in mind for those elites!  Yep… a nice size 13 high-top boot with the Vibram sole wrapped around my foot with all 235 of my lbs. coming down on it.  CRUNCH-SPLAT!  Well earned, well deserved, Mofos.

  1. Hell I wish I would have been there with a wad of Fiat. Don’t those people know that their is a rush on guns and ammo. Nope I guess they don’t as you folks say, to much fun life and not paying attention to what’s happening around them. lol

    • Sounds good, Charlie.  Maybe we could troll the line and wave around a 2-3 year old i-whatever as bait.  Hey, I’ll swap you THIS for that old Colt SAA or that crummy looking AK!  LOL!!!

  2. Are you sure the got would destroy the bought-back gun? I bet they’d go on express shipment to some far away country’s rent-a-soldiers to kill inoocent women and children and blaming the local government, to offer motive for a takeover.
I hate guns, but I love how the stupid govt initiative without valid motive is being hi-jacked.

    • They have shown videos of the guns being cut in half at other buyback programs. One was doing it on the spot. I watched them cut a priceless antique shotgun in half.

    • Why hate guns?  There’s so much to like about guns.  The average small woman who has little chance of fending off an assault from a would be mugger or rapist can do so with a gun.  An old man, woman or couple who would be immediately physically overpowered by thieves breaking into their home can defend their residence with a gun.  A small man who has no chance to defend himself unless he’s some extremely unlikely Bruce Lee equivalent can do so with a gun.  Millions of homeowners possessing guns and living in an increasingly tyrannical nation can be a deterrent on the power of that nation’s government just because of their numbers.
And, though estimates vary widely, even the low end of the official estimates of the numbers of times that guns are used lawfully each year in the U.S. are something on the order of 100,000 times (including brandishing a gun to avoid the escalation of conflict.)   This is many times the number of uses of guns for evil or murderous ends.
      What’s to hate?

    • Agreed, Fred.  Haven’t seen you post here but have on SGTReport.  If this is your first time here, welcome to the SD web site.  🙂
People forget that a gun can be a great equalizer for those who are not as young, strong, tough, or quick as they once were or as many of the thugs out there.  I am 6’3″ tall and 235 lbs.  I can fend for myself but worry about my wife.  She is 5’4″ and about 150 lbs.  I am about 5x as strong as she is, so she needs something extra to fend off any home invaders who show up when I am not here.  If multiple attackers show up, which they do on occasion, I could use a force multiplier as well… and have some.
We recently had an episode in our town where 2 thugs broke into a 73 year old woman’s home, one of them posing as someone looking for a lost dog.  She was knocked to the floor and injured.  They then tied her up and ransacked her place.  Fortunately, they did not kill or seriously injure her… but they could have.  She will recover physically but it will take longer to heal psychologically.  It is a VERY poor idea to allow such cretins as these to decide whether or not we continue to live.

  3. Mammoth  Is that you with a wad of cash?
Here is the interesting part.  A good pistol is worth $300-400.  A good rifle is worth $1,000 to $2,000 (AK and AR)  What we need in one of these gun buy backs in Reno or Carson. I’d be there with silver rounds, making phyzz converts and buying good firearms.  Like ammo, any gun purchased at those prices is immediately worth 2-3 times as much.
Uh, duh, we already have these. They’re called gun shows.  Oh well.  Besides which, no one in NV would trade a good gun for cash unless it was fully prices.  As for those guns that are actually sold to the cops.
Yes, XC, they are destroyed and sold for scrap.
Ugly Dog I’m with you on that plan. I can front the cash. You set up the buy back. I’ll wear my LEO uniform It’s all good!

  4. Sad truth is, the effects of all the tree huggin’ by so many in Western Washington/Seattle is not likely to be scrubbed clean anytime soon….fortunately, legal pot is rumored to be on the way so there is hope that some of these uber-liberal yay-whos may actually become sensitive to economics!

    • Don’t sweat it, 4-oz.  As a retired R&D chemist, I am working on a spray that will rid the great state of WA of these pests.  Agree that the Seattle area is infested with them.  Most of them are displaced Californicators.  Too bad that they did not stay there.

  5. Stop it with the gun propaganda.
    Guns are for pussies.
A real man doesn’t need a gun to make others respect him.
You’ll be pathetic with your guns all alone in the wood while others are building a resilient community.
Please talk about silver and stop it with that propaganda.

    • If you live in the USA you realize that once all the guns are gone government will have free rein to come and take all your assets at any time. What are you going to do? Punch one of them? They would shoot you on the spot to get rid of a useless eater.

    • “Guns are for pussies.”
Yeah?  Remember that line when YOU are looking down the muzzle of someone’s gun.  Blurt it out at them and give them the finger while you are at it.  It’ll work out.  Promise.

    • Comments from this balz character should just be ignored. It is obvious from the comments made that it is just a troll trying to get a reaction.

      “Guns are for pussies”

At least it got that right, give me all your guns.

  6. Police stood in awe as gun enthusiasts and collectors waved wads of cash for the guns being held by those standing in line for the buyback program.
I’m in awe that the gun owners sold their weapons for nothing. Hello boneheads you sold your weapons for fiat currency. What about precious metals.. Epic Failure

  7. Amzing that people honestly think a gun will help against a rapist. If a rapist wants to do his thing, and presumes the victim to be packing, he can make a more careful move. Go for the hands. Just don’t be all like “I am John Doe, I’ll be your rapist for tonight”.
How long does a person need to draw a conceiled gun, and how long does a determined, trained rapist need to immobilize and disarm a lady? The agressor has such a huge advantage. He knows the course of action, and the timing. The vicitm is not aware of being a victim. And even walking into a dark alley (stupid as it is) with a drawn gun is of course not OK.
False sense of safety to carry a gun against agression. Rapist and robbers don’t approach you speaking through a megaphone.

And then, when all women carry arms, why would rapists not do the same, and just put a gun with silencer to the head of a victim? What’s a selfproclaimed defenseless victim to do then? In a gun-free society only big criminals have guns. And they don’t mess with civilians, only with other criminals. When someone gets shot in my country, it’s nearly always a criminal. When there is a mass lunatic shooting, often the gun club and police have messed up being too lax, usually these lunies are well known to be so.
The disarming of the US is clearly some way to reduce the firepower against the government, I have no doubt about that. But don’t use false argument such as petty robbers/rapists when the guns are needed to try and defend against the US government, or the mad max clan they’re morphing into, taking all you own for the “greater good”.

  8. Thoughtout history there have been two kinds of people. Those that want to be left alone and those who will not leave you alone. Throughout history those who will not leave you alone have always been armed. Those who will not leave you alone have always sought power. Those who will not leave you alone told those who want to be left alone to disarm and we will protect you. Those who wanted to be left alone who disarmed, were dominated by those who will not leave you alone, who remained armed. Those who will not leave you alone then killed those who wanted to be left alone! Those who will not leave you alone killed many who wanted to be left alone swiftly to set an example for others who wanted to be left alone. Those who wanted to be left alone that remained then died a slow cruel death as the slaves of those who will not leave you alone.

    • Exactly.  As some have said, “Those who beat their swords into plowshares will plow for those who did not”.
On the other hand, those who think that their safety is rooted in being absolutely defenseless are welcome to that choice.  I will not try to dissuade them.  Let life and nature be their teachers.

  9. XC Skater  I am going to clear some air with you here.  3,400,000 times a year someone in the US is able to prevent a crime against themselves or others with a fire arm.  FBI statistics.
If a person takes the time to be proficient with a firearm they are much more likely to save themselves or others from harm.  We do live in a somewhat dangerous society since there are millions of bad guys, criminals, in our society, roaming and looking for victims. If you are familiar with Condition Yellow, as practiced by LEO or civilians, you would understand that this is a condition in which a person is watchful, aware and vigilant, making sure they are not surprised by the bad guy. I don’t worry much about myself since I am a large, strong man and never look like a victim or target  I do worry about others who might not have the physical size and strength to protect themselves and I have used weaponry before to protect others.
I am not sure how quickly the average person could deploy their firearms but I can bring mine to the ready position in about 1 second or less.  And within 1.5 seconds I can put 2 rounds in the thoracic cavity of a target at 10 yards with accuracy  That comes from both personal and professional training.  But I am much faster with a knife, something that is not registered and very concealable.  I have been trained to use a knife in hand to hand combat so if you want to use an edged weapon rather than a firearm, that is a first rate option.  These statements are intended to give you some ideas of what can be done if something bad happens and you are prepared and trained to deal with it.
Going out unarmed is as unwise as driving with your lights off at night, without gas in your tank, without taking safety precautions in your home, not encrypting your computer, or working to prevent identity theft.  If you chose not to take precautions, you will end up a victim, harmed in one way or other other, probably no wiser for it since you didn’t know what hit you and still messed up as a result of not taking precautions to protect yourself.
The fact that you do not like guns does not change the mindset of the bad guy.  It just makes you an easier target.  Having a weapon of any sort at your disposal and knowing how to use it separates you from the sheep.  An attitude about firearms will not protect you. A bad guy is a like a wolf; they do not want capable aware targets.  They want compliant fearful victims.  Wolves are predatory and can’t afford to be injury in the fight.  Fighting back, or even having the appearance of being able to fight back is well over half the battle won.
Being vigilant and having a means to protect yourself will go a a long way to accomplish that end.  If your personal safety is not paramount, then give some thought to your friends or family and what could happen to them if the shit hit the fan.  Do you want to call 911, pray for the best and hope that you wont get hurt.  I will not take that chance in my life.  Give it some thought at to what you might be able to do, or not do, if you found yourself in a bad spot.  How you defend yourself if more important than the means by which you protect yourself and your loved one.  A gun  is a tool, no more and no less.  Hating, fearing or refusing to accept its value does nothing to help your situation.

    • Very well said, AG.  It’s all about choice… so choose wisely.
On the other hand, anyone who is totally incompetent at using a weapon probably should roll into the fetal position, cringe with fear, and hope for the best.  Hey, who knows?  It might work.

  10. @Ed_B said…” aybe we could troll the line and wave around a 2-3 year old i-whatever as bait. Hey, I’ll swap you THIS for that old Colt SAA or that crummy looking AK!
