Children born to parents who eat GM wheat may DIE before age five, warn scientists

We thought we would take some time this morning while the markets are closed to focus on our readers’ health, an issue that is even more important than financial protection.
The Doc’s household now consumes nearly 100% organic grains, fruits, vegetables, and meats.   Are you consuming Monsanto’s GMO products daily?  If so, isn’t it about time that you protect your health as well as your financial assets by consuming natural, organic food?

Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) has developed a novel variety of genetically-modified (GM) wheat that contains an altered protein and enzyme-suppressing mechanism that some scientists are now saying could cause serious problems for the human liver. A recent report compiled by several acclaimed experts in the field of genetics says that children born to parents who consume this GM wheat variety could actually end up dying before they reach the age of five.

This shocking revelation comes at the same time as CSIRO has announced that Australia’s Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR) has granted the group approval for two field trials of both wheat and barley that have been modified in this untested way. Since the technology directly inhibits an enzyme in wheat that is very closely linked to glycogen, a polysaccharide produced in the liver, consuming wheat or barley that contains these genetic alterations will very likely lead to liver failure, and eventually death.

  1. Good to hear the Doc recommending organic food, as GMOs are poison. We eat only non-GMO, mostly organic. Recently, I discovered Dr Mercola’s amazing site on nutrition, lifestyle and health recently and have learned alot from it, including about GMOs (www.mercola.com). Today on Mercola … GM corn and animal organ damage – http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2012/09/22/superbugs-destruct-food-supply.aspx?e_cid=20120922_DNL_art_1 He also has stuff about pets on the site, and recommends raw non-GM food for them – we switched our dog from ‘dog food’ to raw chicken legs, raw lean meat, raw vegetables (all non-GM) (frozen for 3 days first to kill parasites) (apparently dogs don’t need carbs), and she doubled her energy, agility, intelligence and strength within 2 days!

    • With performance like that, maybe we should feed our politicians on non-GMO food?  Who knows?  It just might bring them up to mediocre.  lol

      “…as GMOs are poison”

EVERYTHING is a poison, depending on dose.  Get enough of anything and it WILL kill you… even distilled water.

Not saying that the GMO crap is good for anyone.  Just that it is easy to get carried away with stuff like this.

  2. According to the web Monsanto has spent $19,000,000 to defeat proposition 37 in California.  As goofy and greenie as the typical CA pol might be they may be on to something. Prop 37 requires that any GMO food be labeled as such.  Monsanto knows their stuff is SH**.  When you buy a bottle of wine or 6 pack of beer, a pack of cigarettes or a gallon of gas there are paragraphs of warnings about the health hazards. Heck, you can’t buy a tube of Preparation H without a page of warnings including that it should bever be used orally*.  So why can’t we get some warnings on the crap in our foods?
If people think everything is hunky dorey, then explain to me why we are a nation of fatsos with kids on Ritalin and ADHD breaking out in every corner of the country.
I’m 60 and other than myself at age 10 there were no kids that either fat or afflicted with such neurological malfunctions. Being forced to take some of the most powerful drugs in the government’s bag of pharmacological ‘tricks’ is in and of itself in-freaking-sane. What’s with doping up kids until they can function? Why do the parents allow this?

    * Rumor had it the first guy who tried Prep H that way sued the maker. After that he couldn’t eat anything bigger than a raisin.

    • “Heck, you can’t buy a tube of Preparation H without a page of warnings including that it should bever be used orally*.”

Ah, that’s just for the politicians.  ;-)

”What’s with doping up kids until they can function?”

Just who says that they are functioning once they are all doped up?  My thought is that they ARE functioning… as kids… BEFORE they are doped up.  I guess that drugs are easier and faster to administer than lessons in manners.

  3. Wait, wait! Are “modified palm and palm kernel oil” and “modified corn and rice starch” bad for your health since they are modified? If so, then I do consume these products!

    • “Modified” is one of those open-ended terms that everyone uses and that there are so many possible definitions to it that no one REALLY knows WTH it means.  It’s a bit like “jumbo” or “new and improved”.  Some mods are so minuscule that they consist of nothing more than washing the item in question.  Other mods are steaming.  Others still are more involved.

  4. The problem is, you could be eating GM food and not know it.  Farmer A goes to the elevator and buys one brand of seed which is GM, and Farmer B goes to the same elevator and buys seed that is not GM.  Both farmers plant it and lets say that Farmer A uses a bunch of chemical pesticides and fertilizers because he wants a really good crop, but Farmer B wants organic, so he uses natural fertilizer (cow manure).  It comes time to harvest and both farmers go back to the same elevator to sell their harvest.  The elevator doesn’t separate Farmer A’s harvest from Farmer B’s harvest.  They go into the same silos and all get mixed together.

This is why my mouth doesn’t water about trying not to eat GM and non-organic food.  To me, it’s impossible to distinguish the difference.  Even if you go to a local farmer and buy all of your food from him, there are still too many things to take into consideration to actually call things 100% organic.  Even if you go and buy meat from a farmer, and he says he fed his cow with only organic feed (and you take his word on that) it’s still to hard to say they are 100% organic.  I mean, what if the cow is grass fed, and next to the pasture is a field, and the farmer of that field used pesticides and chemical fertilizers, and rain run-off carries those chemical fertilizers and pesticides to the pasture… then all of the sudden what the cow farmer tells you are organic grass fed cows really aren’t that organic after all.

  5. “The problem is, you could be eating GM food and not know it.”

That’s true and it could happen just that way.  But what is the alternative?  Just throw up our hands, declare defeat, and do nothing or just try to do the best we can to ensure that our food is as healthy and nutritious as possible?  I favor the latter but that in no way obligates anyone else to do the same.  :-)

  6. Yes you will get some GMO in organic foods but not as much as eating all GMO. Farmers who have a field on 2 sides of my house are organic. I get 4 five gallon buckets of wheat from them for $20, $10 for 2 five gallon pails of corn. I buy grass fed beef and last time I bought a quarter I paid $2.67 a pound cut wrapped and delivered to my front door. I am also a CSA member and she doesn’t use any chemicals in the garden so I get lots of fresh produce all summer. Can and freeze excess for winter eating.
